Eleftheria Square in Nicosia, Cyprus was the site of an open, international architectural competition to redesign the major entrance and bridge into the ancient city of Nicosia. Through the bastion walls the new square will pass while giving prominent public space back to the city population. Reducing traffic and producing the greatest possible connection between the city and the landscaped moat which surrounds the city.

The cities past, the last divided capital in Europe, gives us ample fodder for a distinct position to create an unified and communal space marking the entrance to the city.
