The Clydebank Canopy Competition aimed to replace the existing canopy over the footbridge with a new one that would help draw attention to the area from 3 perspectives. The first was from the pedestrian level where those who use the bridge would find wonder, sanctuary and beauty under it. The second was from the river, where boat travel and those enjoying the riverbanks could take in the new canopy. The third was from the air, where those above would be able to recognize the passage over the river easily and see it as a possible destination.
