| Amposta 400,000 houses, international competition:
2004 • Architects: Lida Charsouli, Dominic Harris, Nathaniel Kolbe
The development of Amposta's housing begins with a transformation of the landscape. The shift is fundamental in organizing and spatializing the controlling elements of the occupiable territory. The landscape is re-ordered into an undulating topography of inflections; ridges, valleys, plateaux and riverbeds each play a different role in the overall organization. Ridges provide tall vantage points from which housing can take advantage of the orientation and natural view angles. Valleys are most directly used for ease of movement as they co-ordinate the smoothest path from one terrain to another along a traverse. Plateaux are places of communal gathering and a place for games. |
